July Show

This July we are excited to feature two relatively new artists to Gallery KH.

Michael Fitts & Cristina Geurrero will be our featured artists for July & August and we couldn't be more thrilled with this pairing. Fitts is a Virginia based, graphic artist who uses scrap metals as canvas and paints everyday objects in high detail. Geurrero also uses a photo-realistic painting technique but chooses a diptych format for her creations. Both artists are extremely playful and sometimes provocative in their approach, and the results are just pure fun.

We hope you can join us at the opening exhibition Friday July 17, 5-8PM.

Still Life Show

On Friday, June 5 Gallery KH will kick off the Summer gallery season with a group show featuring three gallery artists- Honore Lee, Carol Stewart, and Mignonette Yin Cheng. The theme for the show is still life, as all three women artists have focused on that subject matter in their careers.

Lee works with mixed media, building textures and depth to her canvases and works on paper. Her primary focus is on vessels of all shapes and colors. She juxtaposes the simplicity and austerity of an urn against a fanciful yet often zen-like setting and the results are beautiful.

Stewart takes a completely different approach to her "tablescapes." In her work you will find a little bit of everything- from a soda can to a kumquat, Stewart leaves no detail untouched. She does this with a very whimsical and expressive style- her brush strokes loose and animated. The end result is truly captivating and always vibrant, rich, and colorful.

Lastly, Mignonette Yin Cheng will be featured in this show- her first posthumous exhibition since her passing in April. Cheng was a highly skilled artist, adept in many media forms including gouache, watercolor, and oil paints. Her works in still life are classic in subject but modern in composition. Her Matisse like use of the canvas creates an inviting and intriguing art form that is truly timeless.

Amy Cannady

On April 24, we will open the Spring season with Amy Cannady's latest body of work entitled, Contemplations. This is Ms. Cannady's first solo exhibition with Gallery KH and we couldn't be more thrilled to be hosting her right as Art Chicago opens and the gallery season takes off for warm weather.  This most recent collection is comprised of mixed medias on paper, board, and canvas.  Cannady has a very organic approach to her composition and every piece is created with much thought through an intense layering process.  Although the style seems to be haphazard, it is actually a very methodical practice which guides Cannady.  Visit our website to view her entire collection available at Gallery KH.

Amy Cannady: Contemplations
Opening Reception with the Artist, April 24th from 5-8PM.
Show closing May 30, 2009.

The artist will host a gallery talk that is free and open to the public.
Saturday, April 25, 2009 - 1:00pm
No RSVP is needed.

Affordable Art Fair-NYC

From May 7-10 Gallery KH will be displaying at the Affordable Art Fair- New York for the second consecutive year.  Last year's show was a tremendous success and we are looking forward to another great event. The catch of the fair is that all of the displayed art work must be under $10,000, and on top of that, 75% of the shown inventory must be under $5,000.  With the current economic situation, everyone is looking for a bargain and the AAF-NYC is definitely a great spot to check out for well priced art.  If you will be in the New York Metropolitan area, stop in and be sure to visit booth E-104.

Rodger Bechtold Opening

On Friday, March 13, Gallery KH honored Rodger Bechtold at the opening of his latest exhibition- Middle Ground: A New Look at the Midwest Landscape.  The evening has a huge success and we would like to thank all of those in attendance.  Bechtold's work is inspiring to the novice and seasoned art critic alike.  His refreshing use of color was especially welcome as we transition from the cold days of winter to the warmer days ahead.  Mr. Bechtold's work manages to strike a chord with nearly every onlooker as he portrays classic everyday Midwest scenery in a spectacular palette.  The show will be up through April 18 so be sure to stop in before then to take in the stunning new works by the artist.

Opening Night: "From Russia, With Love"

Photographs provided by Seth Kammueller

Last night was the official opening of Roman Zaslonov's premier exhibition in the United States, and it was a smashing success. The party began promptly at 6 and two hours later there were no signs of slowing down! Luckily there was enough champagne and truffles for all and the crowd was simply terrific. Most importantly, M. Zaslonov himself was in attendance along with members of his family and close friends. We are very grateful that he was able to make the trip from Paris to be here for the show.

Many thanks to our partners for helping us to celebrate such a significant event: The Auxiliary Board of the Lyric Opera, Michigan Avenue Magazine, Katherine Anne Confections, Wolfgang Puck Catering, and Seth Kammueller Photography. The evening would not have been what is was were it not for them.

If you missed the event, take heart in knowing that this glorious collection of art will be installed thru the first week in March, so you should have plenty of opportunity to view it in person soon. Contact the gallery for more information or visit us Tuesday-Friday, 10:00-5:30PM and Saturdays from 11-5PM.

GenART Event for Roman Zaslonov

Photographs provided by Seth Kammueller

Last night, GenART hosted a private preview event for the Roman Zaslonov exhibit: "From Russia with Love." The atmosphere was brimming with art savvy guests and the response to Zaslonov's work was a mixture of awe and delight. A sampling of images from the evening are shown above, but keep your eyes peeled for a possible appearance of some of these images in an upcoming issue of CS Magazine.

Continuing the excitement surrounding "From Russia with Love," we are ramping up for Friday's main event. The response to this private reception has been overwhelming and we anticipate quite a crowd on Friday night. For more images from the GenART event please click here.
