On Friday, June 5 Gallery KH will kick off the Summer gallery season with a group show featuring three gallery artists- Honore Lee, Carol Stewart, and Mignonette Yin Cheng. The theme for the show is still life, as all three women artists have focused on that subject matter in their careers.
Lee works with mixed media, building textures and depth to her canvases and works on paper. Her primary focus is on vessels of all shapes and colors. She juxtaposes the simplicity and austerity of an urn against a fanciful yet often zen-like setting and the results are beautiful.
Stewart takes a completely different approach to her "tablescapes." In her work you will find a little bit of everything- from a soda can to a kumquat, Stewart leaves no detail untouched. She does this with a very whimsical and expressive style- her brush strokes loose and animated. The end result is truly captivating and always vibrant, rich, and colorful.
Lastly, Mignonette Yin Cheng will be featured in this show- her first posthumous exhibition since her passing in April. Cheng was a highly skilled artist, adept in many media forms including gouache, watercolor, and oil paints. Her works in still life are classic in subject but modern in composition. Her Matisse like use of the canvas creates an inviting and intriguing art form that is truly timeless.
